Straumann implant placement. A quick and painless routine procedure with an experienced oral surgeon - implantologist - Banja Luka
Dental implants represent the most advanced and durable solution for replacing one or more teeth. They are small screws made of biocompatible materials, most commonly titanium or zirconium, which are inserted into the jawbone to take over the function of a tooth root. After the process of osseointegration – when the implant fuses with the bone – an abutment is placed on top, followed by the prosthetic work (crown, bridge, or denture).
In our clinic, we use the finest implants from the Swiss company Straumann, the global leader in implantology, renowned for exceptional quality, longevity, and a high success rate.
Advantages of dental implants:
• Natural aesthetics and functionality – they look and function like natural teeth.
• Preservation of the jawbone and prevention of bone resorption.
• A long-term solution that, with proper care, can last a lifetime.
• Does not require grinding down healthy adjacent teeth for tooth replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long does implant placement take?
The procedure itself takes about 10 to 15 minutes per implant.
How long is the recovery period?
Most patients resume their regular activities within 1–2 days without any issues, while osseointegration takes several months and does not affect the patient’s quality of life.
Is a sinus lift painful?
It is performed under local anaesthesia, and the patient does not feel any discomfort.
Can dental implants last a lifetime?
Yes, with proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups.
Dental implant cost
The placement of a dental implant is carried out and paid for in several stages:
-
Implant placement – 1,200.00 BAM – a titanium screw inserted into the jawbone to replace the tooth root.
-
Suprastructure (abutment) – 400.00 BAM – the connector between the implant and the crown, serving as the support for the prosthetic work.
-
Metal-free zirconia crown – 700.00 BAM – the visible part of the tooth placed on the abutment, made of zirconia, providing a natural look and functionality, and screwed onto the abutment.
The total price for the complete work per tooth is 2,200.00 or 2,300.00 BAM, and includes all stages – from implant placement to the final aesthetic restoration.
Additional costs may include preparatory procedures such as sinus lift or bone augmentation, which vary from case to case, depending on the type of procedure and the amount of material used.
Is dental implant placement painful?
Thanks to local anaesthesia, dental implant placement is painless. After the procedure, mild discomfort, swelling, or a feeling of tightness may occur, which can be relieved with recommended medications.
Most patients return to normal activities within 1–2 days.
What is the warranty for dental implants?
The best Straumann implants come with a lifetime warranty on the implants – you can read the warranty terms at THIS LINK (https://www.straumann.com/content/dam/media-center/straumann/en/documents/brochure/services/152.360-en_FORM.pdf).
In our clinic, with regular check-ups and proper care, we provide long-term safety and support. The warranty on implant components is 5 years.
How to maintain dental implants?
Maintaining implants is just as important as the placement itself:
- Regular and proper oral hygiene at least twice a day.
- Use of an oral irrigator, dental floss, and interdental brushes.
-
Professional cleaning and check-ups at the dentist’s office at least twice a year.
-
Avoiding habits that may damage the restoration or affect the longevity of the implants
Restorations on dental implants
Once the implant placement is complete and the implant is stable, various prosthetic restorations can be made:
-
Crowns on implants – for the replacement of a single tooth.
-
Bridges on implants – when several teeth in a row are missing.
-
Dentures on implants – stable and comfortable, retained on implants, removable for cleaning.
-
All-on-4 and All-on-6 – complete jaw reconstruction using 4 or 6 implants and a fixed bridge that the patient cannot remove independently.
What are the requirements for dental implant placement?
The placement of dental implants requires a thorough evaluation by an oral surgeon – implantologist. Ideal conditions for implant placement include:
-
Specific bone parameters (height, width, volume) in the implantation area.
-
Healthy gums and good oral hygiene.
-
Stable general health (uncontrolled diabetes, severe heart diseases, and certain medications may be contraindications).
-
Absence of active infections in the mouth.
If there is not enough bone in the lateral regions, a sinus lift (sinus floor elevation) or bone augmentation can be performed before implant placement, creating a solid foundation for the implant.
What is the dental implant placement procedure?
First stage – Diagnosis and planning
At the initial appointment, a detailed assessment is carried out, including a 3D CBCT scan, to evaluate the quantity and quality of bone as well as the need for additional procedures such as sinus lift, bone augmentation, etc. Based on the results, an individual implant placement plan is created – determining the number and position of required implants and any preparatory procedures.
Second stage – Surgical implant placement
The implant is placed under local anaesthesia, making the procedure painless. The dentist makes a small incision in the gums, prepares the bone, and inserts the implant. The surgery takes about 10–15 minutes per implant.
Third stage – Osseointegration
Over the next 3 to 6 months, the implant fuses with the bone. During this time, the patient may have a temporary aesthetic restoration so that the smile appears complete.
Fourth stage – Abutment and final restoration
Once the implant is integrated into the bone and stable, the abutment (the implant superstructure) is placed, followed by the final prosthetic work – crown, bridge, or other restoration.
