LASER THERAPY
Lasers and laser technology are now applied in many medical fields, with a particularly important role in dentistry. Thanks to their precision, painless treatments, and minimally invasive procedures, lasers are ideal for working with children and patients who are afraid of dental interventions. At the same time, their use has become an indispensable part of everyday dental practice, as they are effective on both soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity.
For this reason, lasers are increasingly used in a variety of procedures, including gingivectomy, frenulum removal, incision and drainage of abscesses, closure of fistulas, uncovering of implants, and peri-implantitis treatment. The effect of lasers on soft tissues enables so-called “bloodless surgery,” with minimal postoperative complications and faster recovery, while providing patients with an almost completely painless experience.
Gingivectomy
Gingivectomy is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which excess gum tissue is removed to expose a larger portion of the tooth crown. It is most often performed in patients with a so-called “gummy smile,” in cases of gingival overgrowth, or when preparation is needed for the placement of crowns and veneers.
With the use of lasers, gingivectomy becomes a precise and painless procedure. Thanks to its minimally invasive approach, the patient achieves a symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing smile, with significantly improved oral hygiene and faster recovery.
Frenulum Removal (Frenulectomy)
Frenulectomy, or frenulum removal, is another procedure successfully performed with a laser. The frenulum is a small mucosal fold that connects the lip or tongue to the gums. When the frenulum is too short or improperly positioned, it can cause a gap between the front teeth (diastema), gum recession, or limited tongue movement.
Laser frenulum removal is a quick and painless procedure that provides patients with immediate visible improvement in function and aesthetics, without bleeding and without the need for a long healing period.
Peri-Implantitis Treatment
Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory disease of the tissue surrounding dental implants, which can lead to bone loss and even the failure of the implant if not treated in time. Traditional treatment approaches often involve invasive procedures, while the use of lasers allows for precise removal of inflamed tissue and disinfection of the implant surface without damaging the surrounding structures.
In peri-implantitis treatment, the laser acts with bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects, meaning it destroys the bacteria responsible for inflammation and stimulates tissue regeneration. In this way, the success rate of peri-implantitis therapy is significantly increased, and the lifespan of the implant is prolonged.
