ESTHETIC DENTISTRY
In the modern world a beautiful smile is an imperative, and that means, primarily, healthy teeth and gums. Besides being healthy, teeth should be nicely shaped, properly spaced and with a satisfactory color so that Your smile would be irresistible. If nature has given You beautiful smile, we are here to help You with advices and professional care so that it would stay like that, but if You are dissatisfied with the look of Your teeth, visit us and with our doctors consider some of the therapy methods that would satisfy your esthetic demands, but wouldn’t endanger Your health.
Teeth whitening
Researches have shown that a large number of people are not satisfied with the color of their teeth. Aside from the structure of our teeth, that was given us by birth, the color of teeth is affected by other factors. Pigments from food and drinks (black wine, coke, coffee, tea, cigarettes), then some drugs, but also some general diseases can have the influence on the color of Your teeth. Also, in the saliva of some persons there are pigmented bacteria which build colony on teeth making them look worse.
Our dentist, with Your help, should determine the reasons of color changing on teeth and find a method of whitening that would give best results in Your case.
It is necessary to make a difference between teeth whitening and polishing. By polishing teeth, they change their color of various shades by using agents for teeth whitening, while by teeth polishing some soft stains from teeth are being removed (color of teeth is changed), that were made by consuming cigarettes, tea, medicines which contain iron in themselves, and by that teeth are not whitened but are given their old color back.
All you need to know about teeth whitening
Teeth whitening is a technique that is used for 25 years and for a goal has achieving perfect smile that we all strive to.
To understand teeth whitening technique, first You must know the origin of the teeth color.
In fact, teeth surface (enamel) is transparent, and teeth color comes from deep layers of teeth. Because of that teeth structure we actually don’t bleach tooth, because it is not possible to affect so deep in the teeth with any known agent, but we affect the teeth surface, we reduce its transparency and prevent color from going through deep layers of tooth (dentin color).
Means that are used for teeth whitening are based on hydrogen-peroxide (H2O2) and they all work in the similar way. The main difference is in the concentration and the way of preparation. Means that are used in dentistry offices have concentration of about 40%, while means for home bleaching have from 10% to 20% (bleaching in the office is controlled and it cannot have the effect on surrounding tissues, while home bleaching is not possible to control completely so that there is a possibility of damaging oral mucosa).
Our office gives an opportunity for office or home teeth bleaching, depending on Your oral condition and Your demands, using severely and clinically tested materials, adjusting therapeutic procedure only for You. After this therapeutic procedure, it is necessary to stick to advices of the dentist about maintaining teeth and mouth hygiene and to use recommended solutions and gels in goal to achieve maximum results.

Home teeth whitening (splint method)
Technique of home teeth whitening is a technique that is a little bit slower than teeth whitening in the dentist office, but is as easy and simple. With the technique of home teeth whitening in few days You can beautify Your smile by changing teeth color for several shades. First is taken an imprint of Your teeth based on which is made gypsum model. Then is formed extremely thin foil on the vacuum device, which clings intimately on surface of Your teeth.
Foil is worn an hour daily, or at night, depending on the product for bleaching that is used. If it is worn at night, it doesn’t affect Your sleep.
With home whitening, our dentist will examine You ordinarily at the end of every week so that he could follow effects of the treatment, or any changes on gums, as well.
Accomplished effect lasts for years and can be repeated if needed
Non-vital teeth whitening
Sometimes, after treatment, it is possible for tooth to change color. A cause of this change can be because of blood and its metabolites, that are built in dental canals after the trauma, bacteria and toxins that are built in dental tissue during the infection, and also, some materials that are used in therapy of diseased tooth nerve.
In our office it is possible to bleach those teeth by simple and completely painless method, thereby keeping dental tissues and delaying prosthesis care.
Composite fillings (sandwich technique)
What is a sandwich technique at installing composite filling?
Every tooth is extremely important and thanks to advances in technology, there are available techniques that enable us to keep even those teeth with caries. Sandwich technique of installing composite filling means installing two types of fillings: glass ionomer, which is damp-proof and is put on the bottom of the cleaned cavity, and composite with which is filled a part of cavity above gums and which provides good aesthetics.
What are the benefits of this filling?
We rather always recommend this type of filling to patients because of numerous advantages: glass ionomer makes a better connection with tooth, which gets stronger in time and provides continuance of filling, and composite material contributes to better teeth aesthetics. This method allows us to use best characteristics of both materials and with their combination we almost completely neutralize their flaws by offering efficient and aesthetically effective solution of a problem.
Composite fillings
Composite filling considers applying material on front – visible side, front teeth in the first place, because of correction of their color, shape or position (and their mutual relationship). Here is, primarily, a word about cosmetic intervention, that for a final goal has achieving more beautiful look of teeth. That is why for fillings are used aesthetic materials – composites and ceramics.
Both materials have advantages and disadvantages. The resulting effect is much better in regard to previous condition of teeth, and with this a completely natural look of teeth can be achieved.
By filling teeth is accomplished aesthetic effect that every patient wants – brighter teeth. Teeth can be corrected by veneering, in sense that they get volume and color, but regarding size of the teeth, that considers applying composite materials sometimes even on cutting edges of front teeth.
Filling with composite materials belongs to a group of direct restorations, which means that they are done in only one visit, directly on teeth. Lasting of composite fillings, with proper maintenance of teeth and mouth hygiene is evaluated from 5 to 7 years. Namely, material is “used up”, especially in places of adhesion in contact with bottom teeth so it is necessary to do occasional corrections of composite fillings.
Ceramic veneers
Whether it is about slightly changed teeth position or changed color, these aesthetic flaws could be recovered by the appliance of ceramic veneers, which give extraordinary results. According to a model that was obtained from tooth print outpouring of a patient, veneers are made with the help of a computer, which not only provides the most accurate measures possible, but it also injects ceramics and in such a way gives the most possible precision in veneer modeling.
Special value of this method is in the fact that its appliance doesn’t require aggressive grinding of teeth, but taking off only very thin layer of tooth enamel. With veneers is actually changed natural teeth enamel, so in that way could be changed teeth color or made a smaller correction of position, size and general look of teeth.
Ceramic fillings – inlays
In cases when caries has exposed teeth crown too much and when, after removing caries, obtained cavity cannot be recovered with classic filling in a satisfying way (whether it was composite or amalgam), then is done a production of inlay. Inlays are mostly made out of ceramics or metal (but in nowadays rarely). Main difference between inlay and filling is that, besides material that they are made of, inlay is manufactured outside of mouth. Because of that for the manufacture of inlay are necessary at least two visits to the dentist.
In first visit tooth decay is removed and tooth gets ready for inlay. Then the print is taken. Based on the print, technician in the laboratory makes an inlay which is, in the second visit, cemented in the mouth of the patient. Depending on the size of inlay, that is from the outspread of cavity that appeared after removing tooth decay, we distinguish two types of these compensations:
- inlays – which take up to two tooth surfaces maximum, and
- onlays – which take three or more surfaces on tooth
